Kathryn Myers Carpenter, 81, of Charlotte went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 27th 2015, surrounded by her loving family. A native Charlottean, she was born on May 12th, 1933 to Walter and Bertha Myers. She graduated from Central High School and from Queens College, where she earned a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and was a member of the Alpha Delta Gamma Sorority. On June 2nd 1956, she married the love of her life Jimmy Carpenter, and they began their life together.

As a Charlotte Mecklenburg School teacher for 23 years, Kathryn used her gift of teaching to nurture and enrich countless young lives. She especially loved her years of teaching at Hickory Grove Elementary, where fellow teachers also became lifelong friends.

After her retirement, she was actively involved in The Hospitality House of Charlotte, where she received a 10 year service award. Kathryn was an active member of St. John's Baptist Church, and loved her church family. She especially enjoyed serving on the Care Committee and spending time with her "lunch bunch" group. For many years, Kathryn and her husband enjoyed traveling throughout the country with friends and Christian Tours.

It was Kathryn's family however, that gave her the greatest joy. She was a dedicated and loving Christian wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She was devoted to her family, and she loved spending time and making lifetime memories with them. Her grandsons were the joy of her life, and she loved them with all her heart. It wasn't just the "big" events in life that she shared with her family, because it was the "little" things in life that meant so much to her. Cooking, walking on the beach and reading were some of her favorite pastimes. "Can we spend the night grandma?" was probably her favorite question to be asked. Mom's sweet and gentle spirit and her extraordinary unselfishness will always be remembered and treasured.

Mrs. Carpenter is survived by her beloved husband, Blair (Jimmy) Carpenter of 59 years, and daughter Karen Holland (husband Keith) of Charlotte. She is survived by grandsons Josh Holland (wife Beth) and Grant Holland of Charlotte, as well as great grandsons Levi and Jed Holland of Charlotte. Mrs. Carpenter is survived by her brother Ed Myers (wife Linda) of Falls Church, Virginia, and two nephews and a niece.

A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, March 31st 2015 at St. John's Baptist Church at 1 pm with Dr. Dennis Foust (St. John's Baptist) and Reverend Josh Holland (Pathway Church of Charlotte) officiating. Visitation will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.

Memorials in Kathryn's honor may be made to Pathway Church of Charlotte, PO Box 11083 Charlotte NC 28220, or Compassionate Care of Charlotte, 7118 Candlewyck Lane Charlotte NC 28226.
